10절, 강이 에덴에서 흘러 나와 동산을 적시고 거기서부터 갈라져 네 근원이 되었으니 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from thence it was parted, and was into four heads.

비록 지혜와 지성이 보이는 건 사람이지만, 지금까지 말씀드린 대로 이들은 오직 주님의 것이라는 사실이 에스겔에 나오는 유사 표상들(similar representatives)을 보면 분명합니다. That although wisdom and intelligence appear in man, they are, as has been said, of the Lord alone, is plainly declared in Ezekiel by means of similar representatives:

 

1그가 나를 데리고 성전 문에 이르시니 성전의 앞면이 동쪽을 향하였는데 그 문지방 밑에서 물이 나와 동쪽으로 흐르다가 성전 오른쪽 제단 남쪽으로 흘러내리더라, 8그가 내게 이르시되 이 물이 동쪽으로 향하여 흘러 아라바로 내려가서 바다에 이르리니 이 흘러내리는 물로 그 바다의 물이 되살아나리라 9이 강물이 이르는 곳마다 번성하는 모든 생물이 살고 또 고기가 심히 많으리니 이 물이 흘러 들어가므로 바닷물이 되살아나겠고 이 강이 이르는 각처에 모든것이 살 것이며, 12강 좌우 가에는 각종 먹을 과실나무가 자라서 그 잎이 시들지 아니하며 열매가 끊이지 아니하고 달마다 새 열매를 맺으리니 그 물이 성소를 통하여 나옴이라 그 열매는 먹을 만하고 그 잎사귀는 약재료가 되리라 (겔47:1, 8-9, 12) Behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward; for the face of the house is the east; and he said, These waters issue out to the border toward the east, and go down into the plain, and come to the sea, which being led into the sea, the waters shall be healed; and it shall come to pass that every living soul which creepeth, whithersoever the water of the rivers shall come, shall live. And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, there come up all trees for food, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed; it is born again in its months, because these its waters issue out of the sanctuary, and the fruit thereof shall be for food, and the leaf thereof for medicine. (Ezek. 47:1, 8–9, 12)

 

여기서 주님은 ‘동쪽’(the east)과, 물들과 강들이 발원하는 ‘성소’(the sanctuary)로 상징되는데요, 요한계시록에서도 마찬가지입니다. Here the Lord is signified by the “east,” and by the “sanctuary,” whence the waters and rivers issued. In like manner in John:

 

1또 그가 수정같이 맑은 생명수의 강을 내게 보이니 하나님과 및 어린 양의 보좌로부터 나와서 2길 가운데로 흐르더라 강 좌우에 생명나무가 있어 열두 가지 열매를 맺되 달마다 그 열매를 맺고 그 나무 잎사귀들은 만국을 치료하기 위하여 있더라 (계22:1-2) He showed me a pure river of water of life, bright as crystal, going forth out of the throne of God and of the lamb. In the midst of the street thereof, and of the river on this side and that, was the tree of life, which bare twelve [manner of] fruits, and yielded her fruit every month; and the leaf of the tree was for the healing of the nations. (Rev. 22:1–2)
