24절, 이러므로 남자가 부모를 떠나 그의 아내와 합하여 둘이 한 몸을 이룰지로다 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.

진리와 올바름에 관한 모든 법의 기원들, 그 출발점들은 천적(天的, celestial)입니다. 천적 인간의 생명의 질서에서부터 시작, 지상으로 흐르지요. 천국 전체가 천적 인간인데요, 이는 주님만이 천적 인간이시기 때문입니다. 주님은 천국과 천적 인간의 모든 것의 모든 것 되십니다. 그래서 그들, 곧 주님으로부터 시작된 모든 것을 천적이라 하는 것입니다. 모든 진리 및 올바름의 법이 천적 기원, 즉 천적 인간의 생명의 질서에서 내려오는 것처럼, 결혼의 법 또한 그런데요, 천적, 혹은 천국의 결혼은 지상 모든 결혼의 기원이요, 그대로 따라야만 하는 결혼임에 틀림없기 때문입니다. 이 천적 결혼은 한 분 주님과 하나의 천국, 즉 주님을 머리로 하는 하나의 교회 간 결혼이므로, 이러한 결혼에 기원을 둔 지상의 결혼의 법은 그래서 한 남편과 한 아내의 결혼이어야만 합니다. 그럴 경우, 그 결혼은 천적 결혼을 표상, 천적 인간의 한 모범, 전형이 되지요. 이 법은 태고교회 사람들에게 계시되었을 뿐만 아니라, 그들의 속 사람한테까지 새겨져 있었는데요, 그래서 그때는 한 남자는 한 명의 아내만 가졌고, 그렇게 그들은 한 가정을 구성했습니다. 그러나 그들의 후손이 속 사람 되기를 중단, 겉이 되면서 그들은 여러 명의 아내와 결혼하게 된 것입니다. 태고교회 사람들은 결혼에 있어 천적 결혼을 표상했기 때문에, 결혼애(結婚愛, conjugial love)가 그들에게 일종의 천국과 천국적 행복이었지만, 그 교회가 기울어지자 그들은 더 이상 결혼애가 주는 행복에 관한 퍼셉션을 가질 수 없었고, 대신 숫자가 주는 만족에 빠지게 되었는데, 겉 사람한테는 이런 종류의 만족이야말로 기쁨이요, 행복이었기 때문입니다. 이것을 주님은 ‘마음의 완악함’이라 하셨는데요, 주님 친히 가르치시기를, 이것이 모세가 그들로 하여금 여러 명의 아내와 결혼하게 한 이유라 하셨습니다. All the laws of truth and right flow from celestial beginnings, or from the order of life of the celestial man. For the whole heaven is a celestial man because the Lord alone is a celestial man, and as he is the all in all of heaven and the celestial man, they are thence called celestial. As every law of truth and right descends from celestial beginnings, or from the order of life of the celestial man, so in an especial manner does the law of marriages. It is the celestial (or heavenly) marriage from and according to which all marriages on earth must be derived; and this marriage is such that there is one Lord and one heaven, or one church whose head is the Lord. The law of marriages thence derived is that there shall be one husband and one wife, and when this is the case they represent the celestial marriage, and are an exemplar of the celestial man. This law was not only revealed to the men of the most ancient church, but was also inscribed on their internal man, wherefore at that time a man had but one wife, and they constituted one house. But when their posterity ceased to be internal men, and became external, they married a plurality of wives. Because the men of the most ancient church in their marriages represented the celestial marriage, conjugial love was to them a kind of heaven and heavenly happiness, but when the church declined they had no longer any perception of happiness in conjugial love, but in pleasure from a number, which is a delight of the external man. This is called by the Lord “hardness of heart,” on account of which they were permitted by Moses to marry a plurality of wives, as the Lord himself teaches:

5예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 너희 마음이 완악함으로 말미암아 이 명령을 기록하였거니와 6창조 때로부터 사람을 남자와 여자로 지으셨으니 7이러므로 사람이 그 부모를 떠나서 8그 둘이 한 몸이 될지니라 이러한즉 이제 둘이 아니요 한 몸이니 9그러므로 하나님이 짝지어 주신 것을 사람이 나누지 못할지니라 하시더라 (막10:5-9) For the hardness of your heart Moses wrote you this precept, but from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they twain shall be one flesh; wherefore they are no more twain but one flesh; what therefore God hath joined together let not man put asunder. (Mark 10:5–9)

이 태고교회의 후손은 악하지 않았고, 여전히 선했습니다. 그러면서도 그들은 겉 사람으로, 즉 그들의 오운(own)으로 살기를 원했기 때문에, 주님은 이를 허락하셨는데요, 그러나 주님은 그런 중에도 자비롭게 그 안으로 영적, 천적인 것들이 스며들게 하셨습니다. 내적인 것과 외적인 것, 속과 겉이 어떻게 하나로 움직이는지, 즉 어떻게 하나로 나타나는지 하는 건 한 쪽에서 다른 쪽으로 흐르는 인플럭스(influx, 入流)라는 걸 모르면 알 수 없는데요, 이걸 알기 위해 어떤 행위를 하나 생각해 보면, 어떤 행위에 체어리티(charity), 즉 사랑과 신앙이 없으면, 그리고 그 안에 주님이 계시지 않으면, 그 행위는 체어리티의 일, 즉 신앙의 열매라 할 수 없는 걸 보면 되겠습니다. This posterity of the most ancient church was not evil, but was still good; and because they desired to live in the external man or in their own, this was permitted them by the Lord; what is spiritual celestial, however, being mercifully instilled therein. How the internal and external act as a one, or how they appear as a one, cannot be known unless the influx of the one into the other is known. In order to conceive some idea of it, take for example an action. Unless in an action there is charity, that is, love and faith, and in these the Lord, that action cannot be called a work of charity, or the fruit of faith.

‘부모를 떠나’(To leave father and mother)는 속 사람으로부터 물러나는 것인데요, 겉을 잉태하고 낳는 것은 속이기 때문입니다. ‘그의 아내와 합하여’(to cleave unto his wife)는 속이 겉 안에 있을 수 있다는 것입니다. ‘둘이 한 몸을 이룰지로다’(to be one flesh)는 그들, 곧 겉과 속이 거기 같이 있는 것입니다. 전에는 속 사람과 속에서 나온 겉이 영이었지만, 이제 이들은 육이 되었기 때문입니다. 이렇게 해서 천적, 영적 생명은 오운(own), 즉 그들로 하나가 될 수 있게 하는 오운과 인접해졌습니다. To “leave father and mother” is to recede from the internal man, for it is the internal which conceives and brings forth the external; to “cleave unto his wife” is that the internal may be in the external; to “be one flesh,” that they are there together; and because previously the internal man and the external from the internal were spirit, but now they have become flesh. Thus was celestial and spiritual life adjoined to the own, that they might be as one.
