7절, 이에 그들의 눈이 밝아져 자기들이 벗은 줄을 알고 무화과나무 잎을 엮어 치마로 삼았더라 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves girdles.

‘자기들이 벗은 줄을 알고’(knowing that they were naked)의 의미가 자신들이 더 이상 전처럼 이노센스(innocence)가 아닌, 악 가운데 있음을 알고 인정함이라는 것은, 앞장 마지막 구절, ‘아담과 그의 아내 두 사람이 벌거벗었으나 부끄러워하지 아니하니라’(and they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed)(창2:25)라는 데를 보면, 그리고 그걸 ‘그들이 벌거벗었으므로 부끄러워하지 아니하니라’(not to be ashamed because they were naked)로 (엉뚱하게) 읽고는, 이걸 이노센스를 의미하는 걸로 볼 수도 있다는, 이런 걸 보면 분명한 것처럼 말입니다. 정반대의 의미가 그들의 ‘부끄러워함’(being ashamed)으로 표현되는데요, 본 절의 ‘함께 무화과나무 잎을 엮고는 자신들을 숨겼다’(sewed fig leaves together, and hid themselves)는 데를 보면 말입니다. 이는 이노센스가 전혀 없는 곳에서 벌거벗음이라는 건 일종의 스캔들이요, 창피, 망신이기 때문인데요, 악을 생각하는 의식이 수반되는 것, 곧 저절로 악이 떠오르기 때문입니다. By “knowing that they were naked” is signified their knowing and acknowledging themselves to be no longer in innocence as before, but in evil, as is evident from the last verse of the preceding chapter, where it is said, “and they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed,” and where it may be seen that “not to be ashamed because they were naked” signifies to be innocent. The contrary is signified by their “being ashamed,” as in this verse, where it is said that they “sewed fig leaves together, and hid themselves”; for where there is no innocence, nakedness is a scandal and disgrace, because it is attended with a consciousness of thinking evil.
※ 이 ‘벌거벗음’(nakedness)이라는 것은 이노센스의 유무에 따라 완전 정반대의 의미를 갖는다는 말입니다. 이노센스 상태에서 벌거벗음은 순진무구, 가장 순수한 상태를 말하지만, 이노센스가 없는 상태에서의 벌거벗음은 가장 수치스런 상태를 말합니다.
이런 이유로, 말씀에서 ‘벌거벗음’은 일종의 수치스럽고 악한 걸로 사용되며, 전도된(顚倒, perverted) 교회를 서술할 때 사용됩니다. 에스겔입니다. For this reason “nakedness” is used in the Word as a type of disgrace and evil, and is predicated of a perverted church, as in Ezekiel:
네가 어렸을 때에 벌거벗은 몸이었으며 피투성이가 되어서 발짓하던 것을 (겔16:22) Thou wast naked and bare, and trampled on in thy blood. (Ezek. 16:22)
그들이 너를 벌거벗은 몸으로 두어서 네 벗은 몸을 드러낼 것이라 (겔23:29) They shall leave her naked and bare, and the nakedness shall be uncovered. (Ezek. 23:29)
계시록에서는 In John:
내가 너를 권하노니 내게서 흰 옷을 사서 입어 벌거벗은 수치를 보이지 않게 하라 (계3:18) I counsel thee to buy of me white raiment that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear. (Rev. 3:18)
그리고 마지막 날에 관하여는, And concerning the last day:
보라 누구든지 깨어 자기 옷을 지켜 벌거벗고 다니지 아니하며 자기의 부끄러움을 보이지 아니하는 자는 복이 있도다 (계16:15) Blessed is he who watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame. (Rev. 16:15)
신명기에서는, In Deuteronomy:
사람이 그에게 수치되는 일이 있음을 발견하면 이혼 증서를 써서 그의 손에 줄 것이요 (신24:1) If a man hath found some nakedness in his wife, let him write her a bill of divorcement. (Deut. 24:1)
같은 이유로, 아론과 그의 아들들은 제단에 나아가 봉사할 때, 베로 속바지를 만들어 입어 ‘하체를 가리게 하라 안 그러면 죄를 짊어진 채 죽으리라’(to cover the flesh of their nakedness, lest they should bear iniquity, and die) 하시는 명령을 받은 것입니다. For the same reason Aaron and his sons were commanded to have linen breeches when they came to the altar, and to minister, to “cover the flesh of their nakedness, lest they should bear iniquity, and die.” (Exod. 28:42–43)
42또 그들을 위하여 베로 속바지를 만들어 허리에서부터 두 넓적다리까지 이르게 하여 하체를 가리게 하라 43아론과 그의 아들들이 회막에 들어갈 때에나 제단에 가까이 하여 거룩한 곳에서 섬길 때에 그것들을 입어야 죄를 짊어진 채 죽지 아니하리니 그와 그의 후손이 영원히 지킬 규례니라 (출28:42-43)
