24절, 이같이 하나님이 그 사람을 쫓아내시고 에덴동산 동쪽에 그룹들과 두루 도는 불 칼을 두어 생명 나무의 길을 지키게 하시니라 And he cast out the man; and he made to dwell from the east toward the garden of Eden cherubim, and the flame of a sword turning itself, to keep the way of the tree of lives.

이 구절 각각의 표현들에는 제시, 곧 다루기가 불가능할 정도로 가장 깊은, 그리고 중요한 아르카나가 너무나 많습니다. (이들 아르카나는 홍수로 사라진 지금 이 사람들의 천성(天性, genius)에나 적용할 수 있는 것으로, 이 천성은 홍수 후 일어나 살았던 노아 이후 사람들의 천성하고는 완전히 다른 것입니다.) 다음은 간략히 보시게 될 내용인데요, 그들의 첫 부모 세대는 태고 교회를 형성한, 천적인 사람들이었고, 그 결과, 자기들 안에 천적 씨가 심긴 사람들이었으며, 자연히 그 후손들 역시 그들 안에 천적 기원을 가진 씨를 갖게 된 사람들이었습니다. 어떤 씨의 기원이 천적이라는 것은 사랑이 온 마음을 다스려 하나가 되게 하는 그런 것입니다. 사람의 마음은 두 가지, 의지와 이해로 구성되기 때문입니다. 사랑 혹은 선은 의지에, 신앙 혹은 진리는 이해에 속합니다. 태고인들은 사랑 혹은 선을 가지고 신앙 혹은 진리에 속한 것을 지각하였고, 그렇게 해서 그들의 마음은 하나가 되었습니다. Each particular expression in this verse involves so many arcana of deepest import (applicable to the genius of this people who perished by the flood, a genius totally different from that of those who lived subsequent to the flood), that it is impossible to set them forth. We will briefly observe that their first parents, who constituted the most ancient church, were celestial men, and consequently had celestial seeds implanted in them; whence their descendants had seed in them from a celestial origin. Seed from a celestial origin is such that love rules the whole mind and makes it a one. For the human mind consists of two parts, the will and the understanding. Love or good belongs to the will, faith or truth to the understanding; and from love or good those most ancient people perceived what belongs to faith or truth, so that their mind was a one.
※ 사랑으로 신앙에 속한 것을, 선으로 진리에 속한 것을 지각한다는 게 어떤 것일까요? 누가 입만 열면 신앙, 신앙, 진리, 진리 해도 그저 사랑으로, 선으로 품어버리고 마는... ‘무슨 사연이 있겠지... 무슨 속사정이 있겠지...’ 하며, 따뜻하게 대하고, 판단하거나 맞대응하지 않는 그런 것이 아닐까요?
이들 후손과 함께, 즉 후손들을 통해 같은 천적 기원을 가진 씨가 필연적으로 남습니다. 즉 유전됩니다. 이렇게 천적 씨를 유전한 태고 교회 후손들한테는 그래서 진리와 선 사이 무슨 틈이 벌어지는 것만으로도 아주아주 위험합니다. 저세상에서는 이 정도의 변화만으로도 마음 전체가 거의 복구불능일 정도로 왜곡되기 때문입니다. 한편, 천적인 씨 대신 영적인 씨를 가진 사람들이 있습니다. 홍수 후 사람들이 여기에 해당하며, 오늘날 사람들도 해당합니다. 이들에겐 전혀 사랑이 없고, 결과적으로 선한 의지도 없습니다만 그러나 신앙 혹은 진리를 이해하는 능력은 여전히 있어 이걸로 어느 정도는 체어리티의 삶을 살 수 있습니다. 비록 다른 식, 즉 진리에 속한 지식 및 거기서 나오는 선에 기반, 주님으로 말미암은 양심의 암시라는 방식이지만 말입니다. 이런 이유로 이 사람들의 상태는 홍수 전 사람들의 상태와 아주 다른데요, 이 상태에 관해서는, 주님의 신적 자비(the Lord’s Divine mercy), 즉 이후 허락하실 때 다루겠습니다. 이들 아르카나는 현세대에게는 정말 낯선 아르카나입니다. 그 이유는 오늘날은 아무도 천인(天人, the celestial man, 천적 인간)이 무엇인지, 심지어 영인(靈人, the spiritual man, 영적 인간)에 대해서조차 아는 사람이 없고, 더 나아가 그로 인한 사람의 마음과 생명, 삶의 퀄러티라는 게 무엇인지, 그로 인한 사후 상태라는 게 무엇인지에 대해서도 역시 그렇기 때문입니다. With the posterity of such a race, seed of the same celestial origin necessarily remains, so that any falling away from truth and good on their part is most perilous, since their whole mind becomes so perverted as to render a restoration in the other life scarcely possible. It is otherwise with those who do not possess celestial but only spiritual seed, as did the people after the flood, and as also do the people of the present day. There is no love in these, consequently no will of good, but still there is a capability of faith, or understanding of truth, by means of which they can be brought to some degree of charity, although by a different way, namely, by the insinuation of conscience from the Lord grounded in the knowledges of truth and the derivative good. Their state is therefore quite different from that of the antediluvians, concerning which state, of the Lord’s Divine mercy hereafter. These are arcana with which the present generation are utterly unacquainted, for at the present day none know what the celestial man is nor even what the spiritual man is, and still less what is the quality of the human mind and life thence resulting, and the consequent state after death.
