30라멕은 노아를 낳은 후 오백구십오 년을 지내며 자녀들을 낳았으며 And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters. 31그는 칠백칠십칠 세를 살고 죽었더라 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years; and he died. (창5:30-31)

532. ‘라멕’은 앞서 말씀드린 대로, 황폐해진 교회를 상징합니다. By “Lamech,” as before said, is signified the church vastated.

‘자녀들’은 그와 같은 교회를 계속해서 잉태 및 해산하였음을 상징합니다. By “sons and daughters” are signified the conceptions and births of such a church.

533. 라멕과 관련해서는 그가 자녀들을 낳았다는 것, 곧 그런 교회의 여러 잉태와 해산이 있었다는 것 말고는 더 이상 뭐가 없으므로 라멕에 관해서는 이쯤 하겠습니다. As nothing more is related concerning Lamech than that he begat sons and daughters, which are the conceptions and births of such a church, we shall dwell no longer on the subject.

여러 해산, 곧 ‘자녀들’이 무엇인지는 그 교회를 보면 압니다. 그 교회의 모습이 곧 그 교회의 여러 해산, 태어남이기 때문입니다. What the births were, or the “sons and daughters,” appears from the church; for such as is the church, such are the births from it.

‘므두셀라’와 ‘라멕’이라 하던 교회들은 둘 다 홍수 직전에 끝났습니다. Both the churches called “Methuselah” and “Lamech” expired just before the flood.

526. 여기 ‘라멕’은 아홉 번째 교회를 상징합니다. 이 교회의 퍼셉션, 곧 주님의 신성, 선과 진리에 대한 지각 능력은 너무나 그저 그렇고, 흐릿해서 더 이상 그 다음이 없을 정도였습니다. 곧, 교회가 황폐해진 것이지요. By “Lamech” is here signified a ninth church, wherein the perception of truth and good was so general and obscure that it was next to none, so that the church was vastated.

‘아들’은 어떤 새 교회가 일어남을 상징합니다. By the “son” is signified the rise of a new church.

527. ‘라멕’에 관한 위의 내용, 곧, 라멕이라는 교회는 진리와 선에 관한 퍼셉션 능력이 그 이전 교회들보다 더 그저 그렇고, 흐릿해서 더 이상 그 다음이 없을 정도로 황폐한 교회였다라는 사실은 앞장에서 이미 언급했고, 또 이어지는 다음 구절에서도 보실 수 있습니다. That by “Lamech” is signified a church wherein the perception of truth and good was so general and obscure as to be next to none, consequently a church vastated, appears from what was said in the preceding chapter, and from what follows in the next verse.

앞장에서 ‘라멕’은 여기 라멕과 거의 똑같은 걸 상징하는데요, 바로 황폐함입니다. (창4:18-19, 23-24 참조) 그리고 그를 낳은 자 역시 거의 비슷한 이름인 ‘므두사엘’인데요, 이런 걸 보면, 이 이름들이 거의 동일한 것들을 상징하고 있음을 볼 수 있습니다. “Lamech” in the preceding chapter has nearly the same signification as in this, namely, vastation (concerning which see Gen. 4:18, 19, 23, 24); and he who begat him is also called by nearly the same name, “Methusael,” so that the things signified by the names are nearly the same.

18에녹이 이랏을 낳고 이랏은 므후야엘을 낳고 므후야엘은 므드사엘을 낳고 므드사엘은 라멕을 낳았더라 19라멕이 두 아내를 맞이하였으니 하나의 이름은 아다요 하나의 이름은 씰라였더라 23라멕이 아내들에게 이르되 아다와 씰라여 내 목소리를 들으라 라멕의 아내들이여 내 말을 들으라 나의 상처로 말미암아 내가 사람을 죽였고 나의 상함으로 말미암아 소년을 죽였도다 24가인을 위하여는 벌이 칠 배일진대 라멕을 위하여는 벌이 칠십칠 배이리로다 하였더라 (창4:18-19, 23-24)

‘므두사엘’과 ‘므두셀라’는 곧 죽게 될 무언가를 상징하며, ‘라멕’은 무엇인가 파괴, 파멸된 것을 상징합니다. By “Methusael” and “Methuselah” is signified something that is about to die; and by “Lamech” what is destroyed.

523. ‘므두셀라’는 여덟 번째 교회를, ‘라멕’은 아홉 번째 교회를 각각 상징합니다. By “Methuselah” is signified an eighth church, and by “Lamech” a ninth.

524. 이 교회의 퀄러티에 관해서는 아무것도 언급할 게 없습니다. 다만 그 퍼셉션 역량에 관해 굳이 언급하자면... 그건 그저 그랬다는 것, 곧, 그저 일반적이고 흐릿했다는 사실이며, 이것은 ‘노아’라는 교회에 관한 설명을 보시면 분명히 아실 수 있습니다. 즉, 완전함이라는 게 감소하여 허술해졌는데, 특히 지혜와 지성에서 그랬습니다. Nothing is mentioned concerning the quality of this church; but that its perceptive faculty was general and obscure, is evident from the description of the church called “Noah”; so that perfection decreased, and with perfection wisdom and intelligence.

26라멕을 낳은 후 칠백팔십이 년을 지내며 자녀를 낳았으며 And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters. 27그는 구백육십구 세를 살고 죽었더라 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years; and he died. (창5:26-27)
