※ 사람의 거듭남과 관련하여 그 시기와 상태를 일반적, 그리고 구체적으로 여섯으로 나눌 수 있는데, 이를 그의 창조의 날들(the days of his creation)이라 합니다.

31절, 하나님이 지으신 그 모든 것을 보시니 보시기에 심히 좋았더라 저녁이 되고 아침이 되니 이는 여섯째 날이니라 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

사람의 거듭남과 관련하여 그 시기와 상태를 일반적, 그리고 구체적으로 여섯으로 나눌 수 있는데, 이를 그의 창조의 날들(the days of his creation)이라 합니다. 전혀 사람이 아닌 상태에서 서서히 그는 먼저 뭔가가 되고, 그렇게 조금씩 아주 조금씩 여섯째 날을 향해 가기 때문입니다. 이 여섯째 날에 그는 하나님의 형상(an image of God)이 됩니다. The times and states of man’s regeneration in general and in particular are divided into six, and are called the days of his creation; for, by degrees, from being not a man at all, he becomes at first something of one, and so by little and little attains to the sixth day, in which he becomes an image of God.

※ 앞에서도 말씀드렸지만, 형상(image)은 그릇, 모양(likeness)은 내용입니다. 즉 영적인 사람은 형상, 곧 주님을 담는 그릇이 되는 것이며, 천적인 사람은 그 영적인 사람 안에 담기는 주님이십니다.

※ 신앙의 지식(the knowledges of faith)과 관련된 모든 것을 영적(靈的, spiritual)이라 하고, 주님 사랑, 이웃 사랑(love to the Lord and our neighbor)에 속한 모든 것을 천적(天的, celestial)이라 합니다.

신앙의 지식(the knowledges of faith)과 관련된 모든 것을 영적(靈的, spiritual)이라 하고, 주님 사랑, 이웃 사랑(love to the Lord and our neighbor)에 속한 모든 것을 천적(天的, celestial)이라 합니다. 전자는 사람의 이해에, 후자는 사람의 의지에 속합니다. All things relating to the knowledges of faith are called spiritual, and all that are of love to the Lord and our neighbor are called celestial; the former belong to man’s understanding, and the latter to his will.

※ 조금 단순하게 말씀드리면, 머리 신앙은 영적이요, 가슴 신앙은 천적이라 할 수 있습니다. 우열의 문제라기보다는 태생적 특성에 가깝지만, 하여튼 주님은 천적 천사들은 가까이, 영적 천사들은 천적 천사들 다음으로 가까이하십니다. 그러므로 본인의 특성이 그렇다면 할 수 없지만, 가급적 너무 교리, 교리 하지 마시라 권하고 싶습니다.

※ 앞의 상태들에 대해서는 단지 ‘좋았더라’(good)고만 하시는 반면, 이 상태를 가리켜서는 ‘심히 좋았더라’(very good)고 하시는 이유는, 지금은 신앙에 속한 것들과 사랑에 속한 것들이 하나가 되어 영적인 것들과 천적인 것들이 마치 서로 결혼한 것과 같기 때문입니다.

앞의 상태들에 대해서는 단지 ‘좋았더라’(good)고만 하시는 반면, 이 상태를 가리켜서는 ‘심히 좋았더라’(very good)고 하시는 이유는, 지금은 신앙에 속한 것들과 사랑에 속한 것들이 하나가 되어 영적인 것들과 천적인 것들이 마치 서로 결혼한 것과 같기 때문입니다. This state is called “very good,” the former ones being merely called “good”; because now the things which are of faith make a one with those which are of love, and thus a marriage is effected between spiritual things and celestial things.
