이르시되 네가 무엇을 하였느냐 네 아우의 핏소리가 땅에서부터 내게 호소하느니라 And he said, What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother’s bloods crieth to me from the ground. (창4:10)

373. ‘네 아우의 핏소리’는 폭력이 이웃 사랑에게 행해졌음을 상징합니다. The “voice of thy brother’s bloods” signifies that violence had been done to charity;

‘피의 호소’는 유죄 고발입니다. ‘땅’은 종파 분립이나 이단을 상징합니다. the “crying of bloods” is the accusation of guilt, and “ground” signifies a schism or heresy.

374. ‘핏소리’의 상징이 이웃 사랑에 행해진 폭력임이 분명한 것은, 말씀에 나오는 많은 본문들을 보기 때문입니다. 거기에 보면, ‘소리’는 어떤 것에 대한 고발을, ‘피’는 어떤 종류의 죄, 특히 증오를 가리킵니다. That the “voice of bloods” signifies that violence had been done to charity is evident from many passages in the Word, in which “voice” denotes anything that accuses, and “blood” any kind of sin, and especially hatred;

누구든지 자기 형제를 향하여 증오를 품는 사람들은 마음으로는 그를 죽이는 것이기 때문입니다. for whosoever bears hatred toward his brother, kills him in his heart;

주님이 가르치신 대로 as the Lord teaches:

21옛 사람에게 말한 바 살인하지 말라 누구든지 살인하면 심판을 받게 되리라 하였다는 것을 너희가 들었으나 22나는 너희에게 이르노니 형제에게 노하는 자마다 심판을 받게 되고 형제를 대하여 라가라 하는 자는 공회에 잡혀가게 되고 미련한 놈이라 하는 자는 지옥 불에 들어가게 되리라 Ye have heard that it was said to them of old, thou shalt not kill, and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment; but I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother rashly shall be in danger of the judgment; and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council; but whosoever shall say, thou fool, shall be in danger of the hell of fire, (마5:21-22)

이 말씀들은 증오의 등급을 의미합니다. by which words are meant the degrees of hatred.

증오는 이웃 사랑과 반대입니다. 그리고 할 수 있는 모든 방법을 다 동원하여, 만일 손으로 안 되면, 영으로 죽입니다. 손으로 하는 외적 규제로만 제지됩니다. Hatred is contrary to charity, and kills in whatever way it can, if not with the hand, yet in spirit, and is withheld only by external restraints from the deed of the hand.

이런 이유로, 모든 증오는 ‘피’입니다. 예레미야에서처럼 Therefore all hatred is “blood,” as in Jeremiah:

33네가 어찌 사랑을 얻으려고 네 행위를 아름답게 꾸미느냐 그러므로 네 행위를 악한 여자들에게까지 가르쳤으며 34또 네 옷단에는 죄 없는 가난한 자를 죽인 피가 묻었나니 그들이 담 구멍을 뚫었기 때문이 아니라 오직 이 모든 일 때문이니라 Why makest thou thy way good to seek love? Even in thy skirts are found the bloods of the souls of the needy innocent ones. (렘2:33-34)

[2] ‘피’ 하면 증오인 것처럼, 모든 종류의 불법 또한 마찬가지입니다. 증오는 모든 불법의 근원이기 때문입니다. And as hatred is denoted by “blood,” so likewise is every kind of iniquity, for hatred is the fountain of all iniquities.

호세아에서처럼 As in Hosea:

2오직 저주와 속임과 살인과 도둑질과 간음뿐이요 포악하여 피가 피를 뒤이음이라 3그러므로 이 땅이 슬퍼하며 거기 사는 자와 들짐승과 공중에 나는 새가 다 쇠잔할 것이요 바다의 고기도 없어지리라 Swearing falsely, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they rob, and bloods, in bloods have they touched; therefore shall the land mourn, and everyone that dwelleth therein shall languish. (호4:2-3)

그리고 에스겔에서, 무자비함을 말씀하시면서 And in Ezekiel, speaking of unmercifulness:

Thou art become guilty through thy blood that thou hast shed. (겔22:2-4, 6, 9)

너는 쇠사슬을 만들라 이는 피 흘리는 죄가 그 땅에 가득하고 포악이 그 성읍에 찼음이라 The land is full of the judgment of bloods, and the city is full of violence. (겔7:23)

그리고 예레미야 애가에서 And in Jeremiah:

13그의 선지자들의 죄들과 제사장들의 죄악들 때문이니 그들이 성읍 안에서 의인들의 피를 흘렸도다 14그들이 거리 거리에서 맹인 같이 방황함이여 그들의 옷들이 피에 더러워졌으므로 그들이 만질 수 없도다 For the sins of the prophets of Jerusalem, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the righteous in the midst of her, they wander blind in the streets, they have been polluted with blood. (애4:13-14)

이사야에서 In Isaiah:

이는 주께서 심판하는 영과 소멸하는 영으로 시온의 딸들의 더러움을 씻기시며 예루살렘의 피를 그 중에서 청결하게 하실 때가 됨이라 When the Lord shall wash away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the bloods of Jerusalem from the midst, with the spirit of judgment, and with the spirit of burning. (사4:4)

이는 너희 손이 피에, 너희 손가락이 죄악에 더러워졌으며 너희 입술은 거짓을 말하며 너희 혀는 악독을 냄이라 Your palms are defiled in blood, and your fingers in iniquity. (사59:3)

에스겔에서, ‘피’라 하는, 예루살렘의 혐오스러운 것들을 말씀하시면서 In Ezekiel, speaking of the abominations of Jerusalem, which are called “bloods:”

6내가 네 곁으로 지나갈 때에 네가 피투성이가 되어 발짓하는 것을 보고 네게 이르기를 너는 피투성이라도 살아 있으라 다시 이르기를 너는 피투성이라도 살아 있으라 하고 22네가 어렸을 때에 벌거벗은 몸이었으며 피투성이가 되어서 발짓하던 것을 기억하지 아니하고 네가 모든 가증한 일과 음란을 행하였느니라 I passed by thee, and saw thee trampled in thine own bloods, and I said unto thee, Live in thy bloods, yea, I said unto thee, Live in thy bloods. (겔16:6, 22)

[3] 계시록에 보면, 마지막 때의 무자비함과 증오 또한 ‘피’로 묘사하고 있습니다. The unmercifulness and hatred of the last times are also described by “blood” in the Revelation (16:3, 4).

3둘째 천사가 그 대접을 바다에 쏟으매 바다가 곧 죽은 자의 피 같이 되니 바다 가운데 모든 생물이 죽더라 4셋째 천사가 그 대접을 강과 물 근원에 쏟으매 피가 되더라 (계16:3, 4)

‘피’는 영어로 ‘bloods’라 하여 복수로 언급되는데요, 모든 불공정하고 혐오스러운 일들이 증오로부터 솟구쳐 나오기 때문입니다. 마치 모든 선하고 거룩한 일들이 사랑으로부터 그렇게 나오는 것처럼 말입니다. “Bloods” are mentioned in the plural, because all unjust and abominable things gush forth from hatred, as all good and holy ones do from love.

그래서 이웃을 향하여 증오를 느끼는 사람은 만일 그가 할 수만 있다면 그를 죽일 것입니다. 실제로 그는 자기가 할 수 있는 모든 방법을 동원해서 그렇게 할 것입니다. Therefore he who feels hatred toward his neighbor would murder him if he could, and indeed does murder him in any way he can;

이런 것이 이웃에게 폭력을 가하는 것이며, 그것을 여기서 아주 적절하게 ‘핏소리’로 상징하고 있습니다. and this is to do violence to him, which is here properly signified by the “voice of bloods.”

375. ‘호소’에 관한 두 표현, ‘voice crying’과 ‘voice of a cry’는 말씀에 흔히 나오는 표현 형식인데요, 어떤 동요, 소란, 혼란, 또는 어떤 행복한 일의 경우 등에도 사용되고 있습니다. A “voice crying” and the “voice of a cry” are common forms of expression in the Word, and are applied to every case where there is any noise, tumult, or disturbance, and also on the occasion of any happy event (as in Exod. 32:17–18; Zeph. 1:9–10; Isa. 65:19; Jer. 48:3).

17여호수아가 백성들의 요란한 소리를 듣고 모세에게 말하되 진중에서 싸우는 소리가 나나이다 18모세가 이르되 이는 승전가도 아니요 패하여 부르짖는 소리도 아니라 내가 듣기에는 노래하는 소리로다 하고 (출32:17, 18)

9그 날에 문턱을 뛰어넘어서 포악과 거짓을 자기 주인의 집에 채운 자들을 내가 벌하리라 10나 여호와가 말하노라 그 날에 어문에서는 부르짖는 소리가, 제 이 구역에서는 울음 소리가, 작은 산들에서는 무너지는 소리가 일어나리라 (습1:9, 10)

내가 예루살렘을 즐거워하며 나의 백성을 기뻐하리니 우는 소리와 부르짖는 소리가 그 가운데에서 다시는 들리지 아니할 것이며 (사65:19)

호로나임에서 부르짖는 소리여 황폐와 큰 파멸이로다 (렘48:3)

본문에서는 고발을 가리킵니다. In the present passage it denotes accusation.

376. 이로부터 ‘피의 호소’는 유죄 고발을 상징한다 하는 것입니다. From this it follows that the “crying of bloods” signifies the accusation of guilt;

폭력을 행사하는 사람들은 유죄이기 때문입니다. for those who use violence are held guilty.

시편에서처럼 As in David:

악이 악인을 죽일 것이라 의인을 미워하는 자는 벌을 받으리로다 Evil shall slay the wicked, and they that hate the righteous shall be guilty. (시34:21)

에스겔에서 In Ezekiel:

네가 흘린 피로 말미암아 죄가 있고 네가 만든 우상으로 말미암아 스스로 더럽혔으니 네 날이 가까웠고 네 연한이 찼도다 그러므로 내가 너로 이방의 능욕을 받으며 만국의 조롱 거리가 되게 하였노라 Thou city art become guilty by the blood which thou hast shed. (겔22:4)

377. 여기 ‘땅’이 종파 분립 또는 이단을 상징한다는 것은, ‘들’이 교리를 상징한다는 사실로 분명합니다. 그리고 이런 이유로, 들을 자신의 일부로 하는 ‘땅’은 일종의 종파 분립입니다. That the “ground” here signifies a schism or heresy, is evident from the fact that a “field” signifies doctrine, and therefore the “ground,” having the field in it, is a schism.

사람 자체가 ‘땅’이요, 또한 ‘들’입니다. 이런 것들이 사람 안에서 수정(受精)되기 때문인데요, 사람은 그 안에서 수정되는 게 무엇이냐에 따라 그런 사람이 됩니다. 선과 진리로 수정된 사람은 선하고 진실한 사람이 되고, 악과 거짓으로 수정된 사람은 악하고 거짓된 사람이 됩니다. Man himself is the “ground,” and also the “field,” because these things are inseminated in him, for man is man from what is inseminated in him, a good and true man from goods and truths, an evil and false man from evils and falsities.

어떤 특별한 교리나 이단 가운데 있는 사람은 그것으로 일컬어지는데요, 그래서 우리가 보고 있는 이 ‘땅’이라는 용어는 종종 사람의 종파 분립이나 이단을 가리키기 위해 사용됩니다. He who is in any particular doctrine or heresy is named from it, and so in the passage before us the term “ground” is used to denote a schism or heresy in man.
